Three Awesome Summertime Activities to Do in Boston, Massachusetts
Whether you’re in Boston for business or pleasure this summer, regardless of how long you’ll be staying, you have to spare some time to enjoy the great activities and festivities that take place here during this season. Summer is a particularly special time in this city with its numerous offerings of sporting, cultural and food events as well as different outdoor activities.
If you won’t be staying in Boston for long, below are the three summertime activities you should put on the top of your list:
- Attend a summer concert.
What sets summer concerts in Boston apart? For one, most concerts take place outdoors. The iconic Fenway Park, Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, and Gillette Stadium are just some of the most popular venues for these concerts. You’ll also be able to see big-name bands and performers: U2, Aerosmith, Coldplay, The Chainsmokers, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Bruce Springsteen are just some of entertainers set to have concerts in the city in the coming months.
You can also enjoy free outdoor concerts and musical performances if you’re not fond of large crowds. Simply stroll down Boston’s waterfront, along Copley Square and the Hatch Shell, and you’ll be treated to a few hours of free live music. You can drink and eat while watching the show and you can leave anytime you want to and check out the other performances.
- Spend some time (or all of your free time) on Boston’s beaches and waterfront.
A lot of the most popular and fun activities in Boston are water-based. Since the city is surrounded by water on three sides, if you’re into or want to try sailing, you should do so this summer.
Another activity you shouldn’t miss out on is whale watching. Hop on a whale-watching cruise to watch finback, humpback, and other whales in their natural habitat.
If you want to work on your tan, take a dip, or simply walk around under the sun, there are several beaches in and near Boston. Visit one or more of these popular shorelines and swimming spots: Boston Harbor Islands, Castle Island, Revere Beach, South Boston Beaches, and Dorchester Beaches.
Boston’s waterfront is also the best spot for you to watch the amazing Independence Day fireworks. Come Fourth of July, make sure you’re on the Esplanade along the Charles River to watch the free fireworks display and concert.
- Eat out.
Don’t leave Boston without fulfilling all your cravings for great food. Get your fill of the freshest oysters by joining an Island Creek Oyster Farm tour which only takes place during summer. Satisfy your hunger for the best barbeques as well; head to the Formaggio Kitchen and other restaurants and food trucks known for this specialty. If you’re still in the city in August, check out the Fisherman’s Feast, an annual weekend-long street fair at the North End that celebrates seafood and Italy.
